choking ourselves to death?

Working in space, I am sensitive to the argument that we know less about the sea than we know about space, however the validity of the claim. But that humankind is busy destroying our life-sustaining planet shows the limits of our intelligence. And may it be that in destroying the deep ocean, we choke ourselves to death?
"We discovered far more organisms in the ocean than there are stars and planets in the universe! Yet, we know we are only scratching the surface, even with the tens of millions of organisms we discovered at these sailing intervals.
These organisms produce about 50% of the oxygen that we breathe, so to survive we need to preserve that environmental resource. Changing the ocean temperature by only one degree can kill off certain types of bacteria that make life on the planet Earth livable."
